HEARTBEAT

Under the impact of the passing on anti-abortion "Heartbeat Bill", the struggling conflict between a pregnant 18-year-old and her devoted Christian mom begins to rise and their distinct beliefs gradually lead them apart.

Women around the world are trapped, in the age-old model of femalehood – to be gentle, soft and obedient. We are born to give, to care, and to bear lives selflessly – even when we’re not ready yet.

​

As a woman, we are granted the ability to bear children. It is a privilege, yet also a burden. People might judge that it is a sin or an irresponsible act to perform an abortion. Nevertheless, in my opinion, it is courageous to acknowledge the doubt and fear one has. No female should ever feel pressured nor obligated when they are not mentally or physically prepared for what’s coming.

Through the film, I hope to deliver a message to the countless lost teenage girls and young women out there, who find themselves in the same dilemma, or those who ever felt deprived of their physical autonomy, that they are not alone. No matter what decisions they make, there’d always be someone that has their backs – even this person might have a very different opinion on the subject matter.

​

However conflicting one’s religious believe and the other’s right to her own body might be, the two both need a bit more understanding from their loved ones. Respect and support may possibly be the only best remedy to such deep rift.
